The Boise Hawks beat the Wichita Wolverines, 7-4, at Basque Block Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Vui Ut, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. Duane Lummis earned his 8th save in 13 chances. The last-place Hawks improved to 54-88.

Boise right fielder Gerd Zabel changed the complexion of the game in the bottom of the seventh. That's when he belted a 2-run home run off Félix Arruda. His 17th home run of the season put Boise in front, 5-4.

"I felt good up there," said Zabel. "I saw the ball well."
