In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
The Detroit Death Stars knocked off the Joplin Fireballs, 8-3, at The Firepit. Tsurayuki Hasegawa, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Detroit won. The first baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Gaudêncio Deplazes recorded the save for Detroit, his 5th of the season.
In the top of the second, Valentín Velasco hit a 2-run double for Detroit. The 27th double of the season for the Detroit catcher put the Death Stars on top, 2-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Hasegawa told the Detroit News. "It's as simple as that."
The third-place Death Stars lifted their record to 86-75.
