Emeralds Turn Back Victoria, 3-2

The Emeralds had to overcome a fine effort from Victoria pitcher Juan Cruz to grab a narrow 3-2 win at The drakkar. Cruz went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Eugene leads the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division by 6 games.
Had Albert Rivas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Rivas hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Emeralds.
"This team is on a mission," said Rivas, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
