Kevin Murphy pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Victoria Vikings, despite Murphy's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chippewa River Chiefs at The Reservation. With the win, the River Chiefs have a record of 85-52.
The River Chiefs beat the Vikings in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out double Mario Torres produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Victoria pitcher Kevin Murphy, Torres gave his team a 3-2 lead when he hit a run-scoring double.
"We came out with the short end of the stick," said Victoria skipper Charles Luce.
