Chippewa right-hander Juan Martínez was in fine form, shutting out the Nichols Gnats, 6-0. Ben Crabb notched his 2nd save in 8 chances. At 83-50, the River Chiefs are currently first in the Buck O'Neil League Mariner Moose Division.

Arturo Trinidad contributed an important at-bat in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, he hit a 2-run double. It was one at-bat that helped send Chippewa to the win.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Martínez said.
