Winfield Bats Go Silent in 6-0 Loss
|
Victoria starter Juan Cruz put a stranglehold on the Winfield offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Vikings to a 6-0 win. Cruz went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 12-6. Getting the save was Théophile Richard, his 1st.
Phil Parker brought the hometown crowd to its feet with two out in the bottom of the first. That's when the 20-year old catcher belted a 2-run home run. With the round-tripper, the Vikings took the lead, 2-0.
"Good win for us," said Parker. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
Victoria now sits in 5th place in the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division at 60-66.
