Panthers Come Up Short at Eugene
|
The Eugene Emeralds did just enough to sneak past the Charleston Panthers, 5-4, at Prefontaine Park. Eugene pitcher Jake Adkins earned player of the game honors. Adkins got the win, improving to 5-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. Adkins allowed no earned runs. Eugene is now 75-48, 5 games up in the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division.
In the bottom of the fifth, Eugene right fielder José Padilla had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Padilla stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 3-0, Eugene. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Charleston manager Todd Hall. "But we decided not to take it."
