In a close game at UFO Field, the Boise Hawks edged the Phoenix Lights, 5-4. Boise third baseman Billy Cleary earned the nod as player of the game. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Boise is 53-86 and Phoenix, with the loss, 85-54.
Cleary contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Boise in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 4-2, Cleary took a fastball from Lorenzo Espinoza and stroked the home run to left. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Hawks to leap in front, 5-4.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Phoenix manager Rod Allen.
