Big Day by Cochet Sparks Cornhuskers Win
The DeKalb Cornhuskers beat the Spokane Bulldogs, 12-8, at The Kennel. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Gilles Cochet, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. John Patterson got credit for the win, improving to 3-8. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Nobukazu Adachi earned the save, his 2nd.

In the top of the 8th, the Cornhuskers grabbed the lead when Joe Vacher rapped a two-out home run. DeKalb was trailing 8-7, when Vacher hit a 2-run home run off Joseph Drury to put his team in front, 9-8.

"I felt good up there," said Vacher. "I saw the ball well."

DeKalb's record now stands at 51-85, placing them last in the Ford Frick League Billy the Marlin Division.
