The Vancouver Canadians did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Freedom at Stanley Park. Nobody did more than first baseman Aftab Mengal, who captured player of the game honors. With the win, Vancouver has a record of 78-64. Philadelphia falls to 64-77.

Scotty Hudson said the idea of hitting a home run crossed his mind when he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth. Hudson belted a solo home run to stake Vancouver to a 5-4 lead. His 37th home run of the season came off Philadelphia pitcher Florent Fontaine.

Hudson said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
