Omaha right fielder Fulton Swatt played a vital role in his team's 10-4 triumph over Joplin. He was 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for Omaha. Omaha reliever Petya Chajegov was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Mack McNeil took the loss for Joplin. Omaha is now 56-81, Joplin 66-70.

The Raptors took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Masaharu Higashi banged a two-out home run. Omaha had been trailing 4-3, but Higashi hit a 1-1 changeup from Mack McNeil for a 3-run home run.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Swatt told the Omaha Gazette.
