Fireballs Come Back Late to Clip Bumblebees
|
In a tight battle between the Joplin Fireballs and the Pasadena Bumblebees, pitcher Stephen Pearson was in the zone. The Joplin right-hander was named the player of the game in Joplin's 3-1 win. Joplin reliever Bob Brown picked up the win, upping his record to 9-4. Vicente Valenzuela shouldered the loss. Picking up the save was Freek Janszen, his 4th.
This game went down to the wire. In the top of the ninth, Abraha Rafiq had a big at-bat. With two out, the Joplin catcher hit a 2-run home run, to put his team up, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said Pearson.
The Fireballs now have a mark of 64-64.
