Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Astoria Argonauts got the win.
The Argonauts had to overcome a fine performance from Minneapolis pitcher Dave Conboy to grab a 3-2 win at The Ice Box. Conboy allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings. Artashes Injeyan got credit for the win, improving to 1-5. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings.
Runs were hard to come by in this one. Tetsuo Chikuda's at-bat with two out in the top of the ninth, therefore, was critical. The Astoria right fielder hit a run-scoring single, to put his team on top, 3-2.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Minneapolis manager Fernando Vargas said following the tough loss.
Their 67-60 record puts the Argonauts second in the Blake Camden League B.J. Birdie League.
