The Victoria Vikings bested the San Angelo Mustangs, 7-3, at The drakkar. Ed Weston was named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Maurice Bignold was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Toshiharu Sasaki was credited with the save for Victoria, his 3rd of the season.
There was more than one reason the Vikings beat the Mustangs, but Weston's big at-bat in the bottom of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Weston told the Victoria Gazette.
The Mustangs, at 68-49, have lost 4 straight games.
