The Charleston Panthers beat the Chippewa River Chiefs, 11-5, at Franklin Mountains Field. Charleston left fielder Glenn Dempsey earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Vincent Casanova recorded his 5th save for Charleston. Charleston is now 47-71.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fifth when Dempsey hit a 2-run double. It propelled the Panthers into the lead, 5-3.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Dempsey told the Charleston Observer.
