Behind a solid performance from left fielder Steve Bailey, the Peoria Caterpillars defeated the Minneapolis Freeze, 9-6. Bailey was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Caterpillars. The win was Edolf Switzer's in relief. His record improves to 7-7. Doyle Sullivan took the loss for Minneapolis. Oda Matsumura nailed down his 2nd save.

In the bottom of the eighth inning of a 6-6 tie, Peoria shortstop Clyde Wrixon hit a 2-run single. It broke the deadlock and put Peoria on top, 8-6.

"We got the victory," said Wrixon. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."

Peoria is now 56-66. Minneapolis is 56-67.
