Goei and Takeda Suspended, Out 5 Games
Friday, May 10th, 2024
The action was hot and heavy at a recent Yokohama-Chunichi game at Cuckoos Stadium in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. The only thing hurt was a few players' pride. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Bay Stars Shi-fu Goei and Chunichi's Takeshi Takeda will each miss 5 games for their roles in the fight.
"We do not condone this kind of behavior on the field," the league announcement read. "As such, we believe that this punishment fits the actions taken by these two players. We hope that there will not be a repeat of the incident or else the consequences will be even more severe."
This season Goei is hitting .382 with 52 hits, 12 home runs, 28 RBIs, scored 28 runs and played in 36 games.
To this point in the season, Takeda has put up these figures: 0-1 record, 12 relief appearances with 8.1 innings, 1 save, 7 strikeouts, 4 walks and a 6.48 ERA. He has limited other teams to a .290 batting average.
