Hotta and Wang Fight, Get Suspended
Wednesday, May 8th, 2024
One player challenged the other with some angry words at the Swallows-Bay Stars game at Rebels Ballpark yesterday. There was some pushing and shoving -- then the dugouts emptied. There was a lot of scuffling, but no punches thrown. When order was finally restored and the dust settled, the umpires ejected Tokyo Yakult's Shunen Hotta and Yokohama's Qing-hua Wang.
Now both antagonists will get some time off, courtesy of the league commissioner. They were suspended 4 games for inappropriate and aggressive behavior.
Hotta is hitting .213 this year with 2 home runs, 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 32 hits in 150 at-bats, 13 walks and a .310 on-base percentage. Hotta has played in 39 games.
Wang has taken the mound for 18 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 6-1 record with a 4.34 ERA. The Yokohama reliever has limited opposing batters to a .248 batting average.
