Top CL Hurler Honors Go to Onishi Sunday, September 24th, 2023 He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Toshiki Onishi performed like a veteran on the hill for the Yomiuri Giants and walked away with the Central League Cy Young Award in the process. The 20-year-old Giants star fashioned a 9-2 won-loss record in 2023 with a 2.86 ERA. In 100.2 innings of work and 15 starts, Onishi struck out 125 while giving up 70 hits and 19 walks. He held opposing batters to a .188 average.Hirotada Hori of the Hanshin Tigers finished second in voting, while Nobuhiko Miyashita of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows finished third. |
