Wake Forest Manager Gets the Pink Slip; Roberts Let Go Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 Lawrence Roberts had heard the murmurs, but didn't think much of the ongoing rumors of his own firing. That is, until he arrived at the ballpark today and found out he had been terminated as the manager of the Wake Forest Demon Deacans. "You read the newspaper, you hear people talking, you hope it won't happen and when it does, it's pretty tough to actually lose your job," said the distraught Roberts, only a few minutes after learning he had been terminated. "It's never easy to take, but you've got to try to grin and bear it. Like they say, 'you are hired to be fired.'" Several players came by Roberts's office to say their goodbyes and offer hugs and well wishes as he packed his belongings. "He was well-respected in the clubhouse, but in the end we need someone who is going to bring better results," said Wake Forest's general manager. |
