López and Núñez Brawl, League Suspends Them Friday, April 23rd, 2021 Sometimes on the baseball diamond disparaging words are uttered in anger and lead to more than what the players bargained for. That's what happened at yesterday's Long Beach State 49'ers-Houston Cougars game at Ballpark of Macclenny College. What started off as a war of words ended up a tag team match as both clubs rushed on the field to defend their honor. When the umpires sorted it all out, they ejected Long Beach State's Jaime López and Houston's José Núñez from the game for their roles in starting the melee. Today the players were notified by the league office that they had been suspended 7 games for violating league rules. For the season López is hitting .245, batted in 39 runs with 11 home runs and 31 runs scored. In 10 starts this year Núñez has recorded a 1-6 record and a 4.67 ERA. |
