San Angelo's Wheeler Goes Ballistic with 6 Hits Thursday, June 27th, 2024 No matter what the Coney Island Cyclones threw at him today, Derek Wheeler hit it. He easily handled Cyclones pitching, going 6 for 6 and helping the Mustangs to a 13-7 triumph at Coney Island Coliseum. He told BNN reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball." The Coney Island skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we might just do that... blindfold him... and then pitch him differently, just to be sure." Derek Wheeler singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th. During the current season Wheeler is batting at a .467 clip with no home runs and 6 RBIs. He has played in 10 games and scored 8 times. |
