Bernardo Martínez was hurt throwing a pitch in their game against the Houston Sting and has a torn back muscle. Team trainers were hesitant to predict a date for return but said it was likely the injury will keep the closer out at least 5 months. Martínez has 23 saves this year. In 51 relief appearances he has tossed 50.1 innings, fanned 50, and given up 37 walks with a 5-11 record. The Sanford reliever has recorded a 6.26 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .322 when he is on the mound. |
