Paolillo Strokes 5 Hits
Thursday, July 31st, 2025
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory, your fifteen minutes of fame -- you get your name in the record book. Win or lose, you get listed. Pero Paolillo got his name in the record book, but the Phoenix Lights picked up the win, topping the New York Ninjas 7-4. "Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the New York center fielder expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference. He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Paolillo spoke further about his big game. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone." On his record-setting day Paolillo delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material. Pero Paolillo singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
In 54 games Paolillo is hitting .270 this season with 44 hits, 1 home run, 21 RBIs, 33 walks, .420 OBP and has scored 29 runs.
