Hit Streak Over, Outlaws Stop Puckett
Thursday, August 31st, 2023
Jim Puckett saw his 21-game hitting streak wither and die today during the Defenders 7-2 victory over Ottawa at Parliament Field. The 27-year-old right fielder was held hitless in 5 at-bats by Outlaws, but his West Coast teammates produced enough offense to garner the win.
Talking to reporters after the game, Puckett was upbeat. "Am I disappointed about the hit streak? Maybe, just a little bit. How could you be unhappy after you have hit in 21 straight games? I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did. And I am really happy that we won another ballgame today. Life is good."
This season Puckett is swinging the bat at a .315 rate with 145 hits in 461 at-bats. To date he has hit 3 home runs, scored 87 runs and driven in 64.
