Mayfield 5-for-6 for Diablos Thursday, May 8th, 2025 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. It might come around only once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Arnie Mayfield got one today. He scattered hits all over Hell Stadium to pace El Paso to a 14-4 victory over Wichita. The Wichita skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Mayfield hit several that he is not supposed to hit." Arnie Mayfield hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Roger Hood in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th. Thus far this season in 9 games Mayfield is batting .571 with 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He has 12 hits in 21 at-bats. |
