It's Over: Canadians Stop Takeuchi
Sunday, August 18th, 2024
For once, it was the Death Stars picking up Hidekazu Takeuchi.
Their offensive catalyst, as the Detroit manager calls him, saw his 22-game hitting streak snapped as Takeuchi was held hitless by the Vancouver Canadians at The Death Star. The 26-year-old third baseman went 0-for-4. It should have made for a lousy day, but his teammates picked up the slack and whipped the Canadians 8-7.
At the press conference after the game, Takeuchi told reporters, "Everybody did the job but me. No problem, we won the game."
Asked how he felt about the streak ending, he grinned and replied, "It was a good run. I'll try to start another one tomorrow."
Thus far this year Takeuchi is batting .387 with 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
