Smith 5-for-5 Against Coronado Thursday, June 13th, 2024 It was a big day with the bat for Wiley Smith of the South Bay Arsenal as he bashed out hit after hit after hit against Coronado. To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today... and Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big story in the game. We lost the game 6-5. That's the story. The Phantoms flat out beat us!" At the end of the game Smith had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy for his big day with the bat, but not too happy with the outcome of the game. The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat. Wiley Smith hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Cipriano Sousa in the 7th and singled in the 8th. So far on the season Smith is hitting .281 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 39 hits and played in 43 games. |
