Bad News for Coal Miners, Payne Injured
Monday, May 27th, 2024
It took the Antioch team doctor a while to realize it, but reliever Dorian Payne won't simply play through a torn flexor tendon in his elbow after he got hurt throwing a pitch in today's Freedom-Coal Miners game. At first, it looked like Payne might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 14 months.
His stats sheet for the year shows Payne has managed to hold opponents to a .235 average in 26 relief appearances, while putting up 1-1 record with 50 strikeouts and 10 walks in 51.2 innings. He has a 2.79 ERA with no saves.
