Hitting Streak Still Alive for Strafford Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 The Fireballs won the game today, but you would have been hard pressed to find anyone talking about it. The focus seemed to be on second baseman Larry Strafford extending his hitting streak to 20 games by going 3-for-4 in the game. "Sure we are happy that we won, but seeing Larry extend his streak was also special," said a jubilant Joplin manager. "He's a special player who is capable of doing some amazing things at the plate." For the record, the Fireballs defeated the Astoria Argonauts 10-9 at The Firepit. Larry Strafford singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Ambrosio Cuco in the 7th and walked in the 8th. Strafford is presently hitting at a .373 pace with 9 home runs and 35 RBIs. He has played in 58 games and scored 42 times. |
