Setback for Eureka and Claude Howard
Monday, May 5th, 2025
"It's worse than we thought." That was the news from the Hornets clubhouse today as it was learned that closer Claude Howard will be out for an added one week as a result of a recent injury. His treatment for a stiff back will have to be extended. Initially it didn't seem the injury was a major concern, but the Eureka closer told team trainers of some discomfort yesterday morning, and upon examination it was determined to be a more serious injury. "We'd rather take this thing slowly and make sure Claude gets back onto the field healthy," said the team's head trainer.
This year Howard has made 11 relief appearances, pitched 10.2 innings, and fashioned a 0-3 record with a 3.38 ERA. He has recorded 5 saves, struck out 18, and allowed opposing clubs to hit .295 when he is on the hill.
