Big Day with Bat: Martínez 5-for-5
Thursday, September 26th, 2024
History in the making. That's what the fans at Stars & Stripes Stadium got to see today in the Brooklyn 9-8 triumph over the Patriots. António Martínez of the Manhattan Beach came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against the Black Knights. "It was a great day for me, but a disappointing one for our fans," he said to the reporters covering the game. "I wish I could have won it for them. They like stats, but they love winning." In the postgame press conference the Brooklyn skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink. I am just glad we escaped with a win. Martínez was lethal." António Martínez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
On the year Martínez is hitting .313 with 147 hits, 5 home runs, 43 RBIs, .357 OBP and has scored 49 runs.
