Lebel Goes on Rampage Against Bombers
Saturday, August 24th, 2024
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory, your fifteen minutes of fame -- you get your name in the record book. Win or lose, you get listed. Goldi Lebel got his name in the record book, but the South Carolina Bombers picked up the win, topping the San Diego Hops 11-7. "Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the San Diego shortstop expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference. He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Lebel spoke further about his big game. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone." On his record-setting day Lebel delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material. Goldi Lebel hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Aidan Carrick in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
In the current season, Lebel has put up a .295 batting average with 125 hits, 4 home runs, 63 runs batted in and scored 42 runs.
