League Benches Ishimura 80 Games, Illegal Drug Use
Saturday, July 27th, 2024
The commissioner's office announced that Eichiro Ishimura of the South Carolina Bombers had been given a 80-game suspension for violation of the league's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The news got around the Mariners' clubhouse quickly yesterday afternoon, though no player was willing to talk on the record.
"Eichiro? I can't believe it," one veteran player said.
"I'd be willing to bet that it was some over-the-counter medication that has some banned substance in it. That's the problem with the system. You can't tell where the drug came from, but they are in a lot of over-the-counter stuff now," the player said.
"We're disappointed, but that's what testing is for," the Bombers GM told BNN. "You find things out, as painful as they are."
