García Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
Monday, July 15th, 2024
"Ladies and gentlemen, Octávio García has just hit for the cycle!" That was the call from the PA announcer as García collected the last hit he needed to complete the cycle today against the Hops. He collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 2 RBI and 4 runs scored as New York stopped San Diego 13-9 at The Brew Stade.
Hitting for the cycle is one of the most difficult feats in baseball at any level. The odds are really against a player hitting a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game.
"It's the last thing on my mind really. I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill," García told reporters after the game.
He could be right, but it's not every day that someone hits for the cycle. That's why his name will be placed in the record book.
Octávio García hit an RBI triple in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Henry McGowan in the 6th and grounded out in the 7th.
Thus far this year García has hit .312 with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs.
