Super Swinger -- Holmes Slams 5 Hits Saturday, October 1st, 2022 After the Portland 8-7 victory over Cabo San Lucas and his 5-hit day center fielder Nick Holmes told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game are very good. Three or four hits even better, five or more are out of sight ... and if it is in pro ball, it is really something special." The 28-year-old player gained that distinction today at Waterfront Park with a spectacular 5 for 9 game against the Cabo San Lucas Toreros. The skipper of the Beavers spoke glowingly of Holmes, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Nick did that to perfection today." Nick Holmes grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Clarence Byrd in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, doubled in the 9th, grounde d out in the 11th, singled in the 13th, singled in the 15th and singled in the 17th. Holmes is hitting .386 this year with 43 home runs, 147 RBIs and 116 runs scored. He has 234 hits in 606 at-bats, 109 walks and a .476 on-base percentage. Holmes has played in 158 games. |
