Oglethorpe Has 20-Game Hitting Streak
Friday, July 2nd, 2021
He did it again!
Tony Oglethorpe got another hit and ran his hitting streak to 20. He collected 3 hits in 5 at-bats, but that wasn't enough to win the game. His Cabo San Lucas Toreros were defeated 9-4 at Field de Los Layendas by the Eureka Hornets.
During the recent streak, the 29-year-old right fielder has remained quiet, sidestepping questions about it with ease. Whether for superstitious reasons or simply in an effort to avoid the spotlight, Oglethorpe preferred to shower praise on his team. He told reporters in the clubhouse after the loss, "We have a better ballclub than we showed today."
"It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "So, we're trying to kind of keep that quiet... don't want to jinx him." Tony Oglethorpe grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, tripled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this year Oglethorpe is batting .351 with 12 home runs, 37 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
