Alonzo Removed in Arkansas; Fired as Manager Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 The fans in Arkansas have gotten their way -- today the Razorbacks parted company with manager José Alonzo. He had been living on borrowed time after a poll of local sports fans found that he was about as popular as the plague. Fans had been increasingly more vocal about their displeasure with how Alonzo was running the club on and off the field. They had even created a "Fire Alonzo Zone" in the right field bleachers, where fans would post signs and dress in t-shirts supporting his exodus as manager. Asked if fan pressure had any effect on the termination, a Razorbacks official, spoke off the record and said, "Yes, it had a bearing. We are always concerned about our fan base, but this was not the primary reason for the dismissal. In the last few months, things have gone downhill and we just had to do something about it. We decided to get new leadership in the clubhouse." |
