Ottawa Snaps Jiménez's Streak at 20
Saturday, April 30th, 2022
It was the best of both worlds for the Ottawa Outlaws today at Cobras Ballpark as they defeated the Newark Jail Birds 5-3 and also ended Gilberto Jiménez's 20-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old Newark right fielder failed to get a hit in 3 at-bats.
"Nothing personal against Gilberto, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Outlaws skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Jiménez frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."
So far in 2022 Jiménez is batting .323 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has 30 hits in 93 at-bats and a .379 OBP.
