Johnson Bashes 5 Base Hits Sunday, August 21st, 2022 After the Manhatten Beach 14-5 victory over Portland and his 5-hit day third baseman Nick Johnson told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game are very good. Three or four hits even better, five or more are out of sight ... and if it is in pro ball, it is really something special." The 29-year-old player gained that distinction today at Stars & Stripes Stadium with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Portland Beavers. The skipper of the Patriots spoke glowingly of Johnson, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Nick did that to perfection today." Nick Johnson singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th and singled in the 7th. This year Johnson has hit at a .308 clip with 39 RBIs, 5 home runs and 32 runs scored. |
