Maurice Gould Whips Berserkers for #200 Friday, May 20th, 2022 What would you do after you had just won your 200th game? Run around The Frozen Tundra doing cartwheels, jumping for joy and waving to the crowd? Well, maybe you and I would do that, but not Maurice Gould -- that's not his way. After he notched number 200, the 36-year-old Montreal hurler spoke to the press like he always has -- in a soft, quiet voice. He wasn't doing any cartwheels or even anything resembling a jump for joy. "Obviously it feels very good," Gould commented. "To win this many games, you've got to have a lot of help." Gould got his milestone victory by beating the Minnesota Berserkers 18-6. He held them to 13 hits in 7.1 innings and rung up 8 strikeouts with 1 walk. After sharing his thoughts with the press, he went to the clubhouse. There he was greeted by the guys who had helped him get #200. His teammates showered him with champagne and then gave him a rousing round of applause. That got to him -- for the first time today, Gould's face broke into a big smile. His career stats show that Gould has racked up 200 victories and 69 defeats and has recorded an ERA of 2.89. |
