League Gets Last Word, Suspends Uchida 2 Games
Saturday, September 4th, 2021
Bronx Bombers center fielder Katsumi Uchida received a 2-game suspension from the league office after he was ejected from a game with the Vancouver Canadians recently.
"I knew I probably was going to be suspended," said Uchida. "We just didn't know how many games. I ain't really surprised about the suspension. What I did was wrong. You never get into it with an umpire like that. Something bad is going to happen, probably a suspension. I just hate it had to come to that."
Uchida was ejected when he complained bitterly about a called third strike. Uchida was called out by the home plate umpire. He immediately spun around and stared at the ump and then used both hands to throw his helmet to the ground. At that point, Uchida was ejected. By that time his third base coach and manager had gotten between the pair. Then Uchida climbed on the back of his coach trying to reach the umpire. After tussling with him, both men got the irate player calmed down and under control and got him to go back to the dugout and to leave the premises.
This season Uchida is swinging the bat at a .216 rate with 19 hits in 88 at-bats. To date he has hit 1 home run, scored 7 runs and driven in 7.
