The Marines right fielder repeatedly sent eager fans scurrying to catch a souvenir and led Chiba Lotte to a 23-12 win over Chunichi. "Hey, the three homers were great, but I'm just trying to help my ballclub ... not thinkin' about home runs. I'm just thinkin' about winning ballgames. When you think about home runs, you very seldom get 'em," he philosophized in the postgame press conference. Hernández was 3 for 3 on the day with 7 runs batted in. Carlos Hernández hit a three-run home run off Xing-hua Zhen in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Avanisvara Manjusha in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Wafeeq Isam in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, walked in the 5th and walked in the 7th.
