It's a No-No for Yamashita
Sunday, June 30th, 2013
The crowd sensed something special today at Ballpark of Otofuke College. They seemed to get a little louder with passing of each out and each inning. It was obvious on the scoreboard that the pitcher had a no-hitter.
"It was like the playoffs or the Japan Series Championship," Nobuhisa Yamashita told the press after the game."
It ended up a very special day for Yamashita of the Hanshin Tigers -- he held the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks hitless and beat them 3-0, totaling 13 strikeouts with 1 walk and faced only 28 batters.
"Today was my day and I got lucky. I've had a couple of other shots that I've lost in the seventh inning and today I got through that and made it."
Lucky? Maybe so. But it usually takes more than luck to hold a team hitless.
Up to now Yamashita has compiled an ERA of 1.39 with a 7-2 mark over 11 starts. He has 84 strikeouts in 77.2 innings and has held opponents to a .173 batting average.
