Monarchs End Elder's Streak Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 For 21 straight games, Rick Elder tried to ignore his hitting streak. "But you guys in the media wouldn't let me." The 17-year-old Niagara first baseman can forget about it now -- it's over! -- courtesy of the London Monarchs. They held him hitless in 4 at-bats and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21. The streak ended on one good note, however, Niagara won the game, beating the Monarchs 10-7. But Elder acknowledged that it meant something to him. "It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. But that's what you're supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try and score runs. It was a cool deal. It's over now. Let's try to start it all over again." Elder is currently hitting at a .394 pace with 7 home runs, 28 RBIs and has scored 19 times. |
