No Hits for Sato, Streak Ends at 27
Monday, April 23rd, 2018
Iowa State left fielder Nakamaro Sato came into today's game against the Georgia Bulldogs on a hot streak. When it was over, the Bulldogs did their job very well. They beat the Iowa State Cyclones 7-0 and cooled him off at the same time. Georgia stopped Sato without a hit and his 27-game hitting streak came to an end.
The 21-year-old Sato only had a few words to say after the game, "I had a chance to do it and I came up short."
His manager commented, "What Nakamaro did was exciting and quite an achievement. It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 27 games in a row. I'm really proud of him. And I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
So far this season Sato has gotten 66 hits in 168 at-bats for a .393 batting average with 18 home runs. His stats include 44 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has played in 45 games.
