3 Roundtrippers for Ávila
Monday, May 23rd, 2016
Carlos Ávila penned his name in the record books after an explosive home run spree against Iowa State. He's now among the select sluggers who have hit three home runs in a game.

In his record-setting day at Forney College Grounds the Missouri left fielder went 4-5 with 5 RBIs and scored 5 times in the 14-10 victory over the Cyclones.

"It was just one of those days," he said in the postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."

"Ávila was locked in," the Iowa State skipper said. "We made some pretty good pitches. Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's pretty hot right now. You've just got to tip your hat."

Carlos Ávila singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jaime Rodríguez in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Estaçio Serrano in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Luis Gómez in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

To date Ávila has chalked up a .441 average with 23 home runs, driven in 46 runs and scored 42 times.
