Rehab Fails, Career Over For Crimson Tide Hayes
Saturday, August 30th, 2014
Doctors told Marc Hayes at the outset that his injury was potentially career-ending. As it happens, they were right. The Alabama starting pitcher informed his team that he would have to give up baseball and retire. Hayes's injury, a torn back muscle, was just too severe for him to continue his career as a player. The 21-year-old Hayes told reporters he hopes to remain in baseball in some capacity in the Crimson Tide organization.
Since joining the league, Hayes has compiled an ERA of 4.99 with a career record of 8-8. He has 120 strikeouts in 135.1 innings and has held opponents to a .271 batting average.
