Thursday, June 1st, 2017
The August Herrman League hitters didn't have a chance in May when the Penzance Pirates manager wrote "Clay" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Carl Clay held teams in check and usually got a win.
He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 2.08 ERA in 5 starts. The talented Pirates star pitched 34.2 innings, fanned 32 and held opposing teams to a .187 average.
For his superb mound work Clay was named the AHL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
So far this season, Clay has logged a 5-1 record with a 2.26 ERA. He has started 9 games, hurled 59.2 innings and registered 53 strikeouts and 23 walks.
