Nichols Goes Hitless Against Matos
Saturday, June 22nd, 2013
Excitement reigned at the ballyard today as Las Vegas hurler Jorge Matos tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.
After defeating the Nichols Gnats at Guiding Light Park 4-0 he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments. "I'm just glad to be here. I want to help the club any way I can. Today I just went right at the Nichols as hard as I could, as long as I could."
Matos chalked up 16 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks in his superb performance.
The Las Vegas manager had his own analysis of the ballgame: "I don't think we could have hit him with a howitzer today."
In 6 starts this season Matos has recorded a 3-2 record and a 2.12 ERA.
